Lake to Lake Quilt Guild - A Brief History

The Lake to Lake Quilt Guild was started on January 8, 1986 by Carol Oswald of Oswald Road, Penn Yan.  Carol put ads out asking if there was any interest in quilting.  At the first gathering 24 women attended.  There were from the communities of Penn Yan, Branchport, Stanley, Geneva, Rushville, Dresden, Canandaigua, Gorham and Hall. They met in the back room of the Old Mill House in Gorham.  Within a year the room was too crowded and Carol arranged to meet at St. John's Church on Swamp Road in Potter.  The group met there for a few years before they outgrew St. John's Church and began meeting at the Methodist Church in Gorham where they still meet today.

It was decided that meetings would be the first Wednesday of each month and that the president and other officers would only serve 2 year terms, excepting the treasurer. The first officers were:  President Carol Oswald, Vice President Karen Clarke, Secretary Callie Hopkins and Treasurer Helen Warden (who served 11 years).

At this writing, the list of the original 24 members is not available.  The following is the list of all the guild members who joined in that first year and there is an * by the name of those who attended the first meeting.
