Quilt Show Ann Hawkins

Flo Meredith

A cheer for the power of Spring! It’s amazing how revitalizing a few days of warmth and a bit of sunshine can be. There may be a mass of fabric and thread strewn throughout the house but the gardens have been raked clear and the beach is clean.

I do hope everyone has gotten their entries in for the Quilt Show – being a last-minute stitcher often leaves me challenged by those deadlines. The biggest challenge this year has been getting one of my quilts back in time for the show – the poor thing hung in another exhibit and has taken a meandering route on its’ way home.

We will devote much of the May meeting to Quilt Show particulars so if you have questions, have time for additional volunteer time, etc. this is the final time to resolve any open items.

Once again you will notice that the volunteer list is sparsely populated – if you notice an empty position on arrival please just pitch in and fill it.

Piecefully, Val

Meeting Etiquette
To further the enjoyment of everyone during Business Meetings and Programs, Lectures and Trunk Shows, please turn all cell phones OFF or set to VIBRATE. If you need to take a call please leave the meeting area for the duration of the conversation.

Also, please be considerate of others who wish to listen during the meeting by keeping personal conversations to a minimum.

Some of our members are sensitive to strong fragrances and would appreciate it if colognes would be foregone on meeting days.

Hi Ladies, Lots of excitement in the air because it is almost quilt show time! Dawn Dennis and I are working on the layout. Your quilts are gorgeous. We can be very proud of our guild.

Do not forget to bring in your ideas for tips or tricks. I will have file cards to fill out at the meeting, do not be bashful, even simple tips are useful. We could use many more.

Thanks, Sally

Bloom Where You're Planted - Spring Into Color Quilt Show 2014

Friday, May 16th and Saturday, May 17th

Please bring your seam ripper to the meeting!

The guild has 36 sheets that need to have the seams along the side of top hem removed so the hem can be used as a pocket for the rod. I would like people to bring their seam rippers and do this during the meeting in May. The sheets are still in the original packaging so are very wrinkled. It would be helpful if people would take 2-3 and put them through the washer/dryer to help get the wrinkles out and then get the quilts back to either Sally or me before the quilt show. It would be okay as long as they got them to there before noon of the morning we set up, Thursday the 15th.  Thanks, Dawn Dennis

  • your Spring Flower Pins for the quilt show give-away

BED TURNING AND APPRAISALS - Flo Meredith, Chairperson

People bring in quilts for the Bed Turning and quilts appraisals that are not in the show, please put your quilts in a pillow case and place a forms for the pillow case (same form you used to enter a quilt for the show). Please write on it that they are for appraisal or the bed turning.
Please write attention of Flo Meredith on the form too.

RAFFLE TOTE BAGS (instead of baskets) - Dorothy Richardson, Chairperson
To everyone who has brought items, THANKS and THANKS AGAIN, outstanding participation. I want to buy several tickets for the bags myself as the contents are so yummy"!".  I will have the bins setup as this is the last meeting before the show!

 Dorothy Richardson

Thanks to everyone's great efforts in creating all the beautiful flowers for our upcoming show - we now have 639 flowers!!!!
Please bring all your finished creations to the May meeting. We only need another 161 flowers to hit our goal of 800.
All the flowers are just beautiful and will add a lot of springtime sunshine to the show. Thanks so much to all of you!!!!!!!!!

After the May meeting Jean Kranz will be teaching us how to make an iron tote. I have checked at Penfield and they carry the quilted ironing board fabric if you’re up for a drive. However, Canandaigua does not have it in stock but they do have silver ironing board fabric and Insulbrite – so we can make our own. Click here for Supply List, etc.

Bring your lunch and we will have an afternoon of sewing.

  • May - Jean Krantz is going to have a class on her iron tote. I think this might be a good early project for Christmas gifts.

  • June - Mary Grimaldi is going to have a class on her sweet little dress towel. I also think this might be a winner for early Christmas projects.

  • July - because of the 4th is on wait and see.

  • August - Ann Hawkins has kindly agreed to spend the afternoon helping us make Temari (Japanese hand balls). Again, Christmas for gifts or the tree.

NATIONAL TEACHER - Bobbi Beckhorn and Sally Kasulke

I would like to thank all who continue to support our service project. Our Quilt show will have an area to highlight our Baby Quilts.
Any quilts received this month will be in the show. We are all busy finishing up our quilt show entries so I am not bringing any kits unless so requested ahead of meeting time by Tuesday May 6th.  Dorothy Richardson
